The historic garden was severely damaged during the Second World War but was later lovingly restored by local residents. The Veluwe

The Veluwe is a beautiful natural area that stretches over a large region in Gelderland. Covering more than 1,000 km², you will find a great variety of nature. For example, the Ice Age push moraines around Arnhem create a forested area full of hills and streams, and near Radio Kootwijk you can find large sand plains. But ancient forests, vast heathlands, and river floodplains can also be found on the Veluwe. 20-50 minute+ drive.

Bilderberg forests

From Hotel De Bilderberg, you can step straight into the Bilderberg forests. Here, you can enjoy peace and space. These beautiful forests are enhanced with various walking trails, allowing you to explore different routes. Enjoy this remarkable piece of nature in every season.

Castle Doorwerth

A short distance from Hotel De Bilderberg lies the beautiful medieval Doorwerth Castle, surrounded by forests and river floodplains. Within its sturdy castle walls, you can explore furnished rooms that bring life in earlier centuries to life, while outside you can enjoy the peaceful kitchen garden and the historic Coach House. A longer walk takes you to the Duno estate, known for its varied landscapes and lovely views.

The castle is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, with last entry at 4:00 pm. We recommend reserving tickets online.
Please note that on 16, 24 and 31 December, the castle closes at 4:00 pm, with last entry at 3:00 pm. 10-15 minute drive.

Sonsbeek Park

One of the most beautiful city parks in the Netherlands, featuring waterfalls, ancient trees and a gently hilly landscape. Park Sonsbeek was designed in the 19th century in the English landscape style and, together with the surrounding parks, forms an impressive national monument.

It is a wonderful place for a walk along ponds, springs and landmarks such as the Belvédère and the Grote Waterval. Thanks to the varied elevation and lush greenery, it feels as if you are surrounded by nature, even though you are right in the heart of Arnhem. 15-20 minute drive.

Park Hartenstein

Just a few minutes from Hotel De Bilderberg lies the monumental Park Hartenstein, a beautiful estate designed in the English landscape style. Here you can stroll among remarkable tree species such as giant sequoias and tulip trees, while woodpeckers and bullfinches can often be heard.

At the heart of the park stands Huize Hartenstein, known as the headquarters during the Battle of Arnhem and now home to the Airborne Museum. A peaceful, green setting where nature and history come together.

Canoeing on the Rhine near Renkum / the Linge

About a 30-minute drive from Oosterbeek, you can rent canoes, kayaks and SUP boards to enjoy a relaxing trip along the Linge, the longest river in the Netherlands. Paddle past natural riverbanks, orchards and historic sites, and end your journey on the terrace at the rental location. We recommend checking the website or opening hours in advance, especially in less favourable weather conditions.
